National Nutrition Month 2020 Focuses on Everyday Habits
Healthy Aging | 03/31/20
In order to maintain a nutritious diet, we need to incorporate everyday habits that contribute to healthy meals and overall wellbeing.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrates National Nutrition Month every March and invites the public to focus on informed food choices and developing sound eating habits. The 2020 theme, “Eat Right, Bite by Bite,” reminds us of these habits and that quality nutrition isn’t necessarily restrictive, but that small changes to diet can have a cumulative effect on health over time.
Each week highlights a new topic surrounding healthy eating. Keep reading for the four tips we learned during National Nutrition Month 2020.
Eat a Variety of Nutritious Foods Every Day: Be sure that you’re including fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy in your daily diet. By eating a wide variety of foods from the main five food groups, your body is able to function properly and help fight against chronic disease.
Plan Your Meals Each Week: Planning your meals helps you to keep healthful recipes and foods in mind. Plus, it will be easier to stick to a healthy nutrition plan when you map out your week’s meals ahead of time. You can start small, like planning your healthy snacks or lunches, and grow from there.
Learn Skills to Create Tasty Meals: Learning a few key techniques gives you the skills you need to make all kinds of meals. You don’t need to be a professional chef to accomplish tasty meals, and you give yourself the power to stick to nutritious meals by preparing your own food. Keep healthful ingredients for your meals on hand and try new foods and flavors in the comfort of your own home.
Consult a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN): National Nutrition Month is the perfect time to schedule an appointment for professional advice to help you through your nutrition journey. An RDN offers personalized nutrition advice to help you reach your goals and thrive through the power of food and nutrition.
