Winchester Gardens Host Veterans Day Ceremony
November 14, 2024In honor of Veterans Day (November 11), Winchester Gardens, a Springpoint Life Plan Community, hosted a ceremony and luncheon to recognize those who served. Residents and team members gathered for a touching program filled with song, dedication, and remembrance, where over 50 resident veterans were honored. Springpoint COO and fellow veteran David Woodward was in attendance, along with Winchester Gardens’ Executive Director Susan Lippy, who opened the ceremony with welcoming thoughts.
The ceremony started outdoors on a beautiful, crisp morning with the raising of the American flag by resident veteran, Robert Lonon. This was followed by a moment of silence to show respect and honor for those who have passed.
Things then moved indoors to the auditorium, with a packed room of over 50 attendees. The Winchester Singers, the community’s choir group, led a lovely rendition of the National Anthem. After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Susan Lippy took the stage to offer words of reflection and gratitude.
Administrative Assistant Beth Letizia then read the names of Winchester Gardens’ 52 resident veterans. These individuals served in the Air Corps, Air Force, Army, Army Medical Corps, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy, and the United States Public Health Services. An “in remembrance” was also observed.
The ceremony closed with a poem read by resident veteran Peggy Lonon, and a rendering of “God Bless America” by the Winchester Singers. Veterans were then invited to a private luncheon hosted by the community.
Springpoint is proud to recognize so many of our own residents and staff who have honorably served in the United States Armed Forces. It is a true privilege to pay tribute to them and their families. This event at Winchester Gardens is just one outstanding example of the many Veterans Day programs that were held throughout the week by several Springpoint communities.
Veterans Day–originally known as Armistice Day–is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
