Importance of Socialization for Seniors

Socialization is Key to a Long, Happy Life

There’s no feeling quite like the one after having a good, long conversation with a loved one. Having that connection to others does wonders for our wellbeing, both physically and mentally. Research study results have even indicated that social isolation constitutes a major risk factor for morbidity and mortality, especially in older adults. Whether you’re planning a day full of activities or simply picking up the phone to call a loved one, it’s important to stay connected.

Ted Bryant had always felt like something was missing – until he moved to Winchester Gardens. He shared, “I have finally found complete contentment. While living in an ambiance of old-world charm and modern amenities, there’s lots of interaction with friendly community members and always something new to do.” Through socialization opportunities in our community, you’re able to achieve an engaging, fulfilled life.

How to Socialize in Our Continuing Care Retirement Community

Making the move to a continuing care retirement community means opening the door to an abundance of socialization opportunities. We make it a priority to offer you a variety of options to spend time with others because we want you to be proud of your home and have fun. Our activities and amenities are not only perfect for loved ones stopping by for a visit, but neighbors become friends through shared experiences.

We highly encourage visits from family members in our community. Show off your beautiful apartment and take a walk through our grounds designed by the Olmstead Brothers, sons of the famed landscape artist responsible for Central Park. Or stop by our movie theater to catch the latest showing. And, be sure to treat guests to a meal at our dining room. Are you having so much fun together you want to make it a sleepover? You’re always welcome to have overnight visitors. And, if you need more room, we even offer guest suites.

Experiences to enjoy with neighbors are ample at Winchester Gardens. Tradition is eminent in our community – something you recognize the moment you first step through the doors. Our Great Hall was constructed in 1927 by famed New York architect John Russell Pope and hosts a variety of resident events and activities, including our beloved happy hour where you can raise a glass with friends and chat in the stunning setting. We also have a full-time activities director who is responsible for daily programming and ensures residents are entertained no matter what their interests may be. From our coffee club to card games, our activities calendar is always full of exciting opportunities.
